Connecting verification with explanation
An image, video or claim can spread rapidly, detached from its source or context. Verification involves finding the evidence needed to assess its reliability, then explaining what that evidence establishes.
FactHub connects this methodological requirement with a commitment to dissemination. The project aims to produce understandable content that media outlets can reuse, so that verification work reaches people through the ways they access information.
Four complementary functions
The proposed media platform would bring together the verification of claims and content, the early identification of suspect narratives, the production of material for distribution, and skills development and media literacy.
A specialised editorial capacity would carry out research, cross-check sources and prepare explanations suited to different media. It would have its own distribution channels and also produce material for partner media.
Identifying content to examine and publishing conclusions are separate stages. Digital tools and artificial intelligence can assist research and analysis; conclusions require human validation.
- Verify
- Cross-check claims, content and sources.
- Identify
- Identify questionable narratives early for examination.
- Produce and distribute
- Explanations adapted to media outlets, formats and languages.
- Train
- Develop professional skills and media literacy.
Formats and languages suited to audiences
The project includes Arabic, Darija, Amazigh and French among its intended languages. This dimension should make it possible to explain verification work in the languages and registers people use.
Articles, scripts, audio pieces and videos serve different distribution needs. Adaptation must preserve the meaning of the evidence and make the explanation usable on air, on a website or in digital environments.
This circulation of material would connect specialised expertise with a diversity of media and audiences, while keeping sources traceable.
Explicit methods and shared skills
Editorial independence, transparent methods, explicit evidence and visible corrections are among the project’s principles. They should enable the public to understand how a conclusion was reached.
Developing newsroom skills supports this ambition. The training cycle held with DW Akademie within member media from 14 to 19 September 2026 covered sources, manipulated content and the critical use of artificial intelligence.
FactHub therefore connects an editorial project, distribution formats and professional development in support of trust in information.
